It was utter chaos. People were running around in a panic, not knowing where to go, but knowing you didn't want to get caught. The men in the green hats were trying to take people away, but you didn't know where they would take you or what would happen if they did. You just knew it wasn't right, and you had to do your best to get away.
Quickly, I tried to duck behind a car, but it was too late. I had been spotted. As a few of them looked over in my direction, I felt my body tense. The man closest didn't even look me in the eye. He just saw the symbol on my shirt, then looked away. It meant I was safe — for now. I carefully pulled my layered top shirt over a bit to hide the rest of the logo. The symbol on my shirt didn't mean anything. It was only part of a larger printed design, but they thought it did, and it meant I wouldn't get captured — just yet.
Suddenly, I was on the edge of a steep mountain side and was looking for foot holds to move myself farther away from the chaos, but it was too steep. I couldn't do it, so had to find another route. I decided on a dirt road, and ended up at an abandoned parking lot. There were a few cars here and there, and people were still scrambling to hide. I found my way inside a nearby, abandoned warehouse. I didn't see anyone, and it felt safer than being outside. As I made my way toward the back, I came upon a long hallway and had to choose which direction to take. Should I go down the too lit up hallway to the left, or to the right, and into the darkness? I couldn't risk being seen. I would be too exposed in the lit up direction, so I decided on the path to the right. Before I knew it, it was pitch black. I couldn't see my hands in front of me. It was like a switch had been flicked, and I was thrown into complete darkness, but I knew I had to keep going. I had to keep moving forward, because I could hear voices behind me. They were getting closer. Had they followed me into the darkness?
I kept walking blindly until a room slowly came into focus. I entered and immediately noticed it had been ransacked. There was stuff everywhere in disarray, but at least the light was on. I couldn't take much more of the blackout. My eyes started scanning the room, quickly and quietly, and as I looked up, and to the left, I noticed a vent. It was barely visible behind a bunch of stuff piled in front of it. That must be the way to go. I slowly climbed up the debris, and quietly peeled away at the layers, always listening to make sure I wasn't heard. Something was in the next room. There was a scratching and crunching sound, and a faint shadow visible in the open doorway, like a creature was eating-feasting. I didn't want to think about what it was feasting on, I just knew I needed to hurry.
I continued my way up toward the vent, and was finally able to open it and peer through. It opened up into a large area, a secret room and beyond, leading somewhere. I was right. This was the way I needed to go. This was the way I HAD to go if I wanted to escape.
